EXTENDED FACULTY

In the 2022/2023 academic year, the Collegio Ghislieri adheres to the University of Pavia’s “Non-Resident Collegiate” project (“Collegiale non residente”), in its two articulations dedicated respectively to Soft Skills Workshops (and the obtaining of “Open Badges”) and Extended Faculty.

The latter refers to high-level teaching for Master’s Degrees.

There are 13 Master’s degree courses activated in the 2022-2023 academic year, all of which are recognised as valid curriculum credits. All are intensive courses, lasting a minimum of 24 hours, concentrated in the course of one week. The courses will be taught in the Pavia colleges by highly trained lecturers from outside the University of Pavia.

The Collegio Ghislieri will host some courses of the LM 69 degree in Agricultural Science and Technology (Scienze e Tecnologie Agrarie), called “Agri-food sustainability”.

There are four courses that will be activated as part of this project, in collaboration with the Agri-food sustainability Master’s Degree Course

CONSERVATION AND USE OF BIODIVERSITY: FROM GENES TO LANDSCAPE (FIRST SEMESTER)

The course ‘Conservation and use of Biodiversity: from genes to landscape’ (BIO03) will be taught in English by Dr. Jonas Müller, founder and director of the Paisaia European Landscape Foundation.

Summary programme:
During the lectures, different scales of biodiversity will be examined – from the genetic level to the species to the community level and biodiversity in the landscape – showing how it is used by humans and how conservation and use are linked, with a focus on agricultural systems.

Schedule:
every day from Monday 14 November to Monday 21 November, excluding weekends, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Aula Sandra Bruni of the Collegio Ghislieri

ORGANIC RICE PRODUCTION SYSTEMS (FIRST SEMESTER)

The course ‘Organic rice production systems’ (AGR02) will be taught in English by Prof. Stefano Bocchi, Professor of Agronomy and Cultivation Systems at the University of Milan.

Summary programme:
Several topics will be covered in depth during the lectures, including organic agriculture, agroecology, organic rice farming and innovation in organic rice production systems.

Schedule:
every day from Monday 14 November to Monday 21 November, excluding weekends, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., in Aula Sandra Bruni of the Collegio Ghislieri

SEED ECOLOGY AND UTILISATION (SECOND SEMESTER)

The course ‘Seed Ecology and Utilisation’ will be given in English by Dr Fiona R. Hay, Senior Scientist at the Department of Agroecology at Aarhus University-Flakkebjerg

Summary programme:
Several topics concerning seed morphology and dormancy, seed vigour and seed treatments, Oryza taxonomy and its conservation, and seed ecology aspects of rice cultivation will be covered during the lectures.

Calendar: to be defined, in the second semester

SEED ECOLOGY AND UTILISATION (SECOND SEMESTER)

The course “CO2 sequestration and the contribution of the agri-food sector” will be held in English by Dr. Antonella Succurro, Scientific Director of the West German Genome Center and researcher at the Life and Medical Sciences Institute of the University of Bonn.

Summary programme:
During the lectures, after a quick overview of the concept of Carbon Accounting for an agri-food product, the practice of Carbon Farming will be addressed, delving into theories and methodologies that favour the sequestration and maintenance of CO2 in agricultural soil.

Calendar: to be defined, in the second semester
